Geoeconomics and International Political Economy
The research group “Geoeconomics and International Political Economy” studies how political and economic forces interact, both within states and in the international system.
One focus of the group is to understand the Political Economy of autocracies. More than half of the world’s population lives under non-democratic rule. The group examines how autocratic regimes function and maintain power. Drawing on historical and contemporary evidence, it explores how institutions, elites, and information shape the stability and evolution of such systems. In addition, the group investigates how states use economic tools to pursue geopolitical goals.
