Sonja Peterson is Senior Researcher in the research group ‘Global Commons and Climate Policy’ and Honorary Professor at Kiel University. For more than 20 years, her research and consulting activities have focused on European and international climate policy and in particular on carbon pricing. Her topics include the effectiveness and efficiency of the European emissions trading system, carbon border adjustment, international burden sharing in climate policy and the social consequences of climate policy. Methodologically, Sonja Peterson specializes in computable general equilibrium models, particularly the DART model, to whose ongoing development she makes significant contributions.

Sonja Peterson studied mathematical economics and economics and moved to the Kiel Institute for the World Economy after completing her doctorate at Kiel University. There she held various positions, some of them in management. She is currently head of the ‘Research Coordination and Development’ support unit.
