The envisaged Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) bears the potential to generate significant gains from intensified international trade, but also bears the risk of excessive investor protection concludes the Kiel economist Henning Klodt in his paper. Empirical evidence suggests that investor state dispute settlement (ISDS) is increasingly vulnerable to be abused by multinationals. Negotiators of the TTIP agreement either should handle ISDS with extreme care or should exclusively concentrate on trade issues and completely exclude ISDS from the treaty.
