Globalisation and Economic Impact on Germany and the EU (original publication German only)

The author examines whether Germany can stand up to the increasingly fierce global and European competition. He analyzes in which economic sectors a highly developed EU country like Germany can become a globalization winner in the long term. He concludes that only high quality training, continuous further qualification and a high degree of flexibility can secure the workplace, while low-skilled activities in the production of tradable goods and services will be no longer competitive in the long term. The continuous accumulation of new human capital will therefore be indispensable and lifelong learning will be crucial to job security. In the same way, higher professional, regional and qualificational flexibility offer effective protection against the offshoring of jobs.
