This essay discusses the economic implications of the Covid-19 pandemic, paying particular attention to the international trade dimension of the problem. Based on the observation that globalisation has slowed down considerably in the last ten years, the essay describes how the Covid-19 pandemic affects China - the heart of many global value chains - and what implications this has for other countries in the chain - especially Germany. It also discusses whether and how globalisation can be made more resilient. The essay concludes with economic policy recommendations.
