Sebastian Krantz, Ph.D.
Sebastian Krantz is a Senior Consultant in the International Analytics unit of CPCS – Advisors to Infrastructure Leaders, and a Geospatial Consultant in the World Bank's Digital Vice Presidency, based in Washington DC. His work employs advanced analytics to support investment prioritization in transport and digital sectors, particularly in Africa. Previously, he consulted the World Bank's Africa Chief Economist Office on African regional integration and the Transport Global Practice on optimal road network investments in the CEMAC and ECA regions.
He completed his PhD on "Africa's Economic Transformation: A Big Data Perspective" in November 2024 within the Research Center International Development and the Kiel Institute Africa Initiative, where he was a Junior Researcher since October 2021. As a Fellow of the Institute, he engages in research collaboration with in the International Development and Trade Policy Research Centers, and continues to maintain the Africa Monitor Platform "africamonitor.kielinstitut.de" he created.
His research interests are macroeconomics, global and regional value chains, and infrastructure (geospatial intelligence, optimal infrastructure policy, and spatial planning), with a particular focus on the Africa region.
