Lukas Menkhoff is Senior Researcher in the Research Center International Development of the Kiel Institute for the World Economy, Professor (em.) of Economics at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, and member of the Finance Group at HU Berlin. His research focus is on International Finance, in particular foreign exchange markets, and Financial Develop-ment, including the impact of financial education, for example in Africa.

Until 2023 he was head of the Department International Economics at DIW Berlin (joint appointment with HU Berlin), and before that he was professor at the universities of Kiel (joint appointment with the Kiel Institute), Hannover, and Aachen. His papers have been published in the: Journal of Economic Literature, Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial Economics, Review of Financial Studies, AEJ: Macroeconomics, Review of Economics and Statistics, Journal of Public Economics, Journal of Development Economics, and Journal of International Economics, among others.
