Federico Mellace is a Junior Researcher at the Kiel Institute for the World Economy, where he works on the Ukraine Support Tracker project. His research interests include defence economics, the economics of security, international macroeconomics, and the fiscal and industrial implications of European support to Ukraine.

He studied Economics and Finance at Bocconi University in Milan, where he is also completing an MSc in Economic and Social Sciences, with a focus on macroeconomics, international economics, and quantitative methods. His bachelor’s thesis examined the role of central bank swap lines in mitigating deviations from covered interest parity.

Federico previously worked at the Kiel Institute as a research intern in the Ukraine Support Tracker project, contributing to the collection, processing, and analysis of data on military, financial, and humanitarian aid to Ukraine.

At the Kiel Institute, he works on research related to Ukraine support and the broader economics of security, with a particular interest in how military assistance to Ukraine interacts with European defence capabilities, industrial capacity, and long-term security policy.
