The Sociality Paradigm: Toward a New Understanding of Economics

For centuries, our understanding of economics has rested on the image of isolated, autonomous, fully rational decision-makers. This image is misleading as it neglects the embeddedness of people in social norms, moral values, and social processes generated by identities, culture, networks,  group dynamics and narratives. These are the factors on which economic modelling must focus if it would adequately pay tribute to the outstanding relevance of “sociality” in the life of people. 

The conference is targeted to explore important features of sociality on which prominent participants have concentrated their work, i.e. David Sloan Wilson (Binghampton University), Colin Mayer (University of Oxford), Nobel Laureate Joseph Stiglitz (Columbia University), Sir Paul Collier (Blavatnik School of Government, Oxford University).
