Dr. Joseph Enguehard
Since September 2026, Joseph Enguehard has been an Albert O. Hirschman Postdoctoral Fellow at the Kiel Institute for the World Economy. Previously, he was a research fellow at the University of Bologna and a visiting fellow at Brown University, and before that a lector at the University of Oxford. He trained at the École normale supérieure in Paris and the Paris School of Economics, and earned his PhD in economics from the École normale supérieure de Lyon in 2026 with a dissertation titled "The Limits to Government: Essays on State Capacity and Long-Run Development". His research focuses on political economy, economic history, and growth, with work on taxation and its enforcement in early modern France, state-led development in colonial India, and the political economy of military mobilization.
