Hamburg-Kiel Lecture on Global Economic Affairs
Dani Rodrik: Populism, the Globalization Backlash, and Remedies
17:00
How can we understand the rise of populism, its relationship with globalization, and the economic forces behind today’s political backlash? And what can be done to address them? For the inaugural Hamburg–Kiel Lecture on Global Economic Affairs, Dani Rodrik, Harvard professor and internationally renowned economist, brings his long-standing work on globalization, international trade and populism to Hamburg to discuss the challenges facing the global economy — and possible paths forward.
The lecture will be followed by a conversation and Q&A with Christoph Trebesch, Vice President of the Kiel Institute.
The event will begin with a welcome from Kai-Uwe Schnapp, Dean of the Faculty of Business, Economics and Social Sciences at the University of Hamburg, and Cathrin Mohr, Professor of International Political Economy and Geoeconomics at the Kiel Institute and the University of Hamburg, who will also guide the event.
The Hamburg–Kiel Lecture on Global Economic Affairs is organized in cooperation with the Helmut and Loki Schmidt Foundation, whose generous support makes the lecture series possible.
