Data Science for Economics Researchers – Julian Hinz (Kiel Institut & University Bielefeld)
Course Description:
This course provides a snapshot of state-of-the-art research in the field of international economics that makes use of big, often unconventional datasets, and novel methods.
Topics include issues in development studies (e.g. using satellite imagery), international trade and migration (large semi-structured administrative data and cellphone trace data) and international finance (data from social networks).
The course combines lectures and application sessions to quick start your data and method intensive research projects.
Julian Hinz (Kiel Institut)
Julian Hinz is a Professor of International Economics at Bielefeld University and the head of the Research Center Trade Policy at the Kiel Institute for the World Economy. His work is at the intersection of international economics and data science, focusing on international trade and its connection with foreign policy, the spatial dimension of international trade, migration and finance, and related questions in applied econometrics.
